When I heard the news that Bruce was gone, I was shocked and sad. Anyone that knew Bruce, or has been (or is today) a member at NAME, knew a great guy! Bruce cared so much for his members and the DJ business wholeheartedly.
Bruce has done a lot for the DJ business for many years and he was intrumental in assiting me with DiscJockeys.com, at the time of our launch back in mid-2003. I asked Bruce if he would help me "get the word out" to the DJ's around the country, so they can get listed in the new DiscJockeys.com online directory. He graciously allowed me to mail a flyer to all of his curent NAME members to let them know about the new DJ directory. He also, provided me with other ideas that were added to the site over time.
Bruce and I had one thing in common... we were both from Philly. In fact, the Willow Grove office is located a few miles from my High School (Abington HS). I don't make it back to Philly often, but when I did, I always contacted Bruce and made a point to stop in to say hello. Bruce always made time to see me and sometimes go to lunch (to get a Philly Cheese Steak at Lee's Hogie House - The Best!). We would sit and talk about Philly and how to make the DJ community even stronger and more profitable for all DJs. He had great vision and ideas. Much of them, the carried out at NAME.
Today, I am very sad I did not have the chance to formally thank him for all of his assistance and support of DiscJockeys.com in the early days to help get our message out to all of the DJs in the DJ community. As a native, Philly boy too, I always asked Bruce (jokingly) to send me a Philly cheese steak or a big soft pretzel (from the guys selling them off the street in downtown philly), out to my office in Scottsdale Arizona. He always laughed at the idea and I kept asking each time I spoke or saw him at a one of the DJ conventions. Next time I'm in Philly, to visit my parents, I will head to Lee's and have a cheese steak for you Bruce (well, me too). LOL
Everyone at DiscJockeys.com would like to offer our condolences to his entire family and I'm sure anyone reading this, offers the same well wishes too. We all will miss him dearly. Rest in peace, Bruce.
